"Glier’s Goetta Tasting" by Mark Balasa, Director of Marketing and Sales

During the 1880's in Cincinnati, Goetta began with a necessity to feed German families on limited resources. The combination of pinhead oats with pork and beef extended the meat and provided a nutritious and filling meal. In the1930's, Newport resident, Robert Glier, left his family butcher shop and took his goetta recipe with him to the sausage kitchen at the H. H. Meyer Packing Company in Cincinnati. When he returned from the U.S. Army Air Corps he purchased a small meat shop in Covington, Kentucky. He manufactured and sold numerous meat and sausage products, including his now perfected Goetta recipe. Get an early start for the Goettafest season and watch Mr. Balasa prepare the perfect goetta patty. Glier’s Cookbooks, tee-shirts, mugs and magnets are available at Kentucky Haus. Goettafans are welcomed!!
